Farmers’ Market Day

Children's book about a trip to the Farmers' Market

It’s Farmers’ Market Day! Follow an enthusiastic (and slightly clumsy) little girl as she searches for the perfect treat. Will she find her prize? Bursting with energy and humor, Farmers’ Market Day captures a colorful feast for the senses. A delicious tribute to farmers’ markets everywhere!

Farmers’ Market Day debuted in March, 2013. It started life as a GROCERY LIST! When my girls were little, I would involve them in shopping by playing I-spy and making up little rhymes. On our grocery list, I wrote down what they told me: “cucumbers, pods with peas, broccoli trees….” and Farmers’ Market Day was born!

It was 1 of 5 books chosen for Choose to Read: Ohio. Ohio State University collaborated with  school districts throughout Ohio to create a curriculum to accompany our book. Illustrator Jane Dippold is a lifelong resident of Ohio.

Keep a look out for me at your local Farmers’ Market–I’ll be the one with her mouth stuffed with samples of apple pie, bags dangling from both arms, fishing around for my piggy bank, because I think that’s a fabulous hand-knit hat up ahead!

Meanwhile, take a look at this fabulous New York Times Review. I continue to be grateful to Jane Dippold for bringing my feisty FMD girl to life in such a joyful way.
